What does a Digital Product Passport cost?

There is no single statutory “DPP fee”. Real cost depends on data readiness, product volume, integrations, identifiers, hosting and ongoing maintenance.

The six main cost drivers

1. Data preparation

Cleaning product, material, supplier and compliance data is often the largest hidden cost.

2. Product volume

Costs change materially when moving from dozens of SKUs to thousands or item-level passports.

3. Integration

ERP, PIM, PLM, supplier portals and APIs reduce manual work but add implementation effort.

4. Identifier & carrier

Product identifiers, QR/data carriers and printing/label changes may add operational cost.

5. Hosting & continuity

Passport data must remain accessible for the period required by applicable rules.

6. Updates & governance

Ownership, validation, versioning and lifecycle updates create recurring cost.

Free vs paid DPP tools

Free tools are useful for scope checks, readiness assessments and early data modelling. Paid platforms become more valuable when you need bulk products, supplier workflows, user roles, APIs, audit trails, custom domains or long-term hosting.

Be careful with price comparisons: product-specific DPP rules are still developing, so a low subscription price does not guarantee that your future sector requirements are covered.
