Data carrier guide
A DPP QR code is a doorway, not the passport itself.
Under ESPR, the data carrier connects a persistent unique product identifier to Digital Product Passport data. The exact carrier and placement come from the applicable product-specific rules.
Three layers to separate
1. Identifier
A persistent unique product identifier identifies the relevant model, batch or item.
2. Data carrier
A QR code, barcode or other automatic identification medium makes the link machine-readable.
3. Passport data
The underlying structured data contains the information required for the product group and access level.
Can I just put a QR code on my product?
No. A generic QR code linking to a marketing page is not automatically a compliant DPP. Product-specific rules determine required information, identifier level, data carrier, placement, access rights and lifetime.
